At node a:


(V – 6IX – 20) / 4  + V/6 + V/9 = 0
V/4  -  6IX / 4  - 5 + V/6 + V/9 = 0
IX = V/6

Solving, V = 18 Volts

Ohm’s law:  I = V / R = -18 / 9 = -2 A
